How ViewSpectra Scores and Recommends Tools

Why this page exists

Most comparison sites do not publish their scoring logic because their scoring is not based on logic. Recommendations are shaped by affiliate arrangements, sponsored placements, or whoever paid for a listing. The result is content that looks like research but reads like marketing.

ViewSpectra uses a structured scoring model. The inputs are fixed, the weighting reflects genuine fit factors, and the results come from the scoring algorithm, not editorial discretion. Publishing the methodology is a natural extension of that.

Assessment inputs

Both the CRM and Legal AI assessments use five questions. The questions are designed to surface the factors that most reliably predict fit between a team and a tool.

Firm or team size

A solo attorney evaluating legal AI has different requirements than a 500-person law firm. A three-person sales team does not need enterprise CRM infrastructure. Size is an early signal that filters out tools which are a genuine mismatch.

Primary use case

Within any category, tools specialize. Some CRMs are built for marketing-driven pipelines; others for outbound sales. Some legal AI tools are strongest in contract drafting; others in research or due diligence. The assessment routes you based on what you actually need the tool to do.

Budget range

Price differences in this category are significant. Recommending an enterprise tool to a team that cannot realistically budget for it is not useful advice. The assessment treats budget as a real constraint.

Integration requirements

Whether you are already in a particular ecosystem matters for which tool will work in your environment. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce, and Litera integrations are all factors that affect fit beyond features.

Adoption preference

A powerful tool that nobody uses is worse than a simpler tool with high adoption. The assessment asks whether your team needs something fast to get started or can support a structured implementation process.

Each answer carries pre-assigned scores for each tool in the category. Scores run from 1 to 5. The model sums scores across all five questions to produce a ranked result.

Weighting logic

The five inputs carry roughly equal weight by design, with one exception: use case. Use case carries the most weight because the wrong tool for your workflow is a waste regardless of price or features.

A team that needs outbound pipeline management and ends up with a marketing-heavy CRM will underuse most of the product and pay for capabilities they do not need. A law firm that needs contract review and selects a legal research tool will find the fit poor regardless of how strong the tool is in its own right.

Budget, size, integration needs, and adoption preference all matter. They are secondary to whether the core workflow matches what the tool is built to do.

How each tool is evaluated

Each tool in the scoring model is evaluated against its real product capabilities. Sources are vendor websites, official product documentation, and published pricing pages. The scoring reflects what each tool actually does, not what is claimed in sales materials.

Tools are rescored when vendors make meaningful changes to their products, pricing, or capabilities. Minor pricing adjustments are noted but do not necessarily trigger a full rescore. Substantive changes are logged in the changelog.

The scoring model currently covers four CRM tools (HubSpot, Pipedrive, Freshsales, Salesforce) and six Legal AI tools (Harvey, Spellbook, Lexis+ AI, CoCounsel, Luminance, Kira Systems). Coverage may expand as new categories launch.

Independence

Scoring is objective for every tool on the platform. The questions and their associated scores are applied consistently. No vendor has paid to appear in results, paid to receive a higher score, or been given the ability to influence how their product is evaluated.

Curation of which tools appear on the platform is discretionary. ViewSpectra covers the tools most likely to be relevant to the buyer segments this site serves. Decisions about what to include are based on market relevance, not commercial arrangements.

What this model does not do

The assessment model is built on five questions. Five questions cannot capture every factor that affects software fit. Teams with unusual requirements, highly specific integrations, or non-standard workflows may find the results less precise than teams with more common configurations.

The scoring reflects publicly available product information, not hands-on testing of every feature across every pricing tier. Some features behave differently in practice than they appear in documentation. For high-stakes decisions, the assessment is a useful starting point, not a substitute for a proper evaluation process that includes trials, demos, and reference checks.

Assessment sample sizes in early quarters are small. The market report data reflects assessments taken on this site and should not be read as a representative sample of the broader market. As the dataset grows, the aggregate patterns will become more reliable.
